Frequently Asked Questions

What are academic accommodations?

Academic accommodations are designed to reduce or eliminate barriers in the learning environment to ensure students with disabilities have equal access. Academic accommodations must be reasonable, cannot alter the academic integrity of the course, and do not guarantee student success.

What can I expect as an accommodation?

Each person is unique in his/her needs; therefore, service provision will depend on what each person needs to participate equally in the classroom setting.

Is there a due date for the ARO registration form?

No. You can apply for services and accommodations anytime; however, depending on the request, specific accommodations may require additional processing time. If the accommodation request is made fewer than 60 days before the student intends to move into University housing, the institution cannot guarantee that it will meet the individual’s accommodation needs during the first semester or term of occupancy.

Is there a fee involved?

No.

Do I need to reregister each semester?

Once accepted as a qualified person with a disability, you will not need to reregister services.

Can I revise my accommodation request?

Students must request the academic accommodations they would like to utilize each semester. To propose changes to your accommodations, please schedule a meeting with an ARO staff member. Remember that you may need to provide additional supporting documentation if your new request is not supported by current documentation.
