Karla Collins is an associate professor and program director of School Librarianship in the Department of Education and Counseling. Before coming to Longwood in 2012, Karla worked in PK-12 schools in Virginia. In addition to teaching 5th grade, Karla was a school librarian at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Karla earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Old Dominion University in 2013. She holds a Masters in Elementary Teaching from The College of William and Mary and a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Library Science from James Madison University.
Karla is active in the Virginia Association of School Librarians, American Association of School Librarians, and American Library Association. She has presented at numerous regional, state, and national conferences and has written articles for School Libraries Worldwide, Knowledge Quest, and School Library Connection.
