Karen Feathers is an Associate Professor of Special Education, Undergraduate Program Coordinator of Special Education, and Director of the Longwood LIFE Program. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Va. Tech, a Master of Science degree in Curriculum & Instruction in Special Education from Longwood University, an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Capella University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Special Education from Gwynedd Mercy University.
Karen was an adjunct in the ASD certificate program at Longwood for six years and retired in 2016 after 34 years of teaching in both general and special education classrooms in Fluvanna County Public Schools. She founded an organization in Ukraine focusing on education and social rights of children with disabilities and their parents after the 2001 adoption of her fifth child, who has Down syndrome, and is active in work to provide special education professional development conferences and new program support in both Rivne and Khmelnytski regions for educators, therapists, parents, and administrators.
In her spare time, Karen loves to swim, sing/play guitar, and visit with her children and grandchildren. Karen and her daughter, Diana, now reside in Farmville.
