Dr. Geraghty is an Associate Professor of History and Social Studies Education and is the History and Social Science Secondary Education Program Coordinator. During a 12-year career teaching high school, Dr. Geraghty earned his MA in History from the University of Richmond, then went on to earn his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. He teaches survey courses in US History, as well as in Historical Inquiry, Methods of Teaching in History and Social Studies, early American history, and early modern English history.
As the coordinator of the History and Social Science Secondary Education teacher preparation program, Dr. Geraghty oversees the progress of students as they pursue their future careers as classroom teachers.
His historical research focuses on the establishment of America's public land system west of the Appalachian Mountains and the various impacts of America's westward migration on land, people, and identities in the early decades of the American republic. His work also connects to the hsitory of the wider Atlantic World through the influence of European immigrants on the shaping of American public land policies and issues of territorial development.
