Dr. Brooke Mathna earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2017 where she was an instructor for three years.  After that, she was an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Southern Indiana for three years.  She is currently an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Longwood.  Dr. Mathna’s three main areas of research center on policing (e.g., police technology, police ride-along programs, police misconduct), theoretical criminology, and pedagogy. Dr. Mathna was also a member of a team that completed a research report examining substance abuse and mental health needs at a county jail, advocating for treatment and rehabilitation of inmates.  Dr. Mathna is also a proponent of evidence-based policies/laws.  She used to work with children, so her focus is on evidence-based programs (e.g., Blueprints Programs) that emphasize children, youth, and families.  Dr. Mathna also enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, and fishing.
