Longwood University has launched a new mobile web app in an effort deliver usable, mobile-appropriate content to students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors.
The mobile web application, http://m.longwood.edu, can be accessed through the web browser of any internet-enabled mobile device and provides the Longwood community with easy access to commonly-used services and information.
Features include a faculty-staff directory, campus map, news and events, athletics information, dining and library services, critical announcements and alerts, a full function search, Longwood’s social media updates and more. In addition, users have the option to customize the web app and only display certain options.
"The Longwood community will now be able to access news and events easier and more often from their mobile devices," said Dave Hooper, Longwood’s director of Web Communications. "We hope it will help everyone stay up-to-date with what’s happening on campus, plus give them easier access to other useful resources."
The campus map feature and directions will be especially helpful for those unfamiliar with campus, such as incoming freshmen during the first few weeks of school, Hooper added.
The Web Communications staff and the university’s Information Technology Services department have been working together for a year to develop the mobile site. They plan to make future additions to the web app once they receive feedback from students and other target audiences.
