The gift of music is coming to children for free this spring.
The Longwood Center for Community Music, established two years ago to provide group and private lessons in piano, voice and instrumental music, is launching its newest initiative: a free children’s choir for ages 7-11. The choir will meet once a week beginning Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
“Choir is a wonderful way for students to learn basic musicianship like rhythm, theory and notation,” said LCCM director Kristen Topham, an adjunct professor of music and accomplished pianist. “We’re excited to offer this opportunity to families from the surrounding communities free of charge, and we hope it will be a lot of fun for all the children who come out to sing. There is no tryout or prior experience required to join—just an interest in music and singing!”
Families interested in registering for the children’s choir can do so at longwood.edu/music/lccm.
The LCCM also provides group and individual lessons in piano, voice and several instruments, and music programs for families with children ages birth-5 years old. Information on lesson availability and rates can be found at longwood.edu/music/lccm.
The free children’s choir is sponsored by the LCCM Scholarship Fund. For more information about the choir or any other lesson provided by the LCCM, contact Topham at 434-395-2503 or [email protected].
